UN URGES GOVT TO ENSURE FAIR CAMPAIGN SPACE PF READY FOR ELECTION RESULTS- VEEP
A United Nations representative has urged the Zambian government to ensure that health regulations are consistently and fairly applied across all political players so that no one feels deprived of having fair campaign space.
Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General Hanna Tetteh said this when she paid a courtesy call on Vice President Inonge Wina in Lusaka.
Ms Tetteh who is Head of the United Nations Office to the Africa Union is in the country to check on Zambia’s preparedness to hold the general elections.
She notes that elections are flash points of political violence if not well managed hence urged political players to be professional in their conduct and uphold the rule of law.
And Mrs Wina says Government is committed to ensure that it delivers a fair and transparent election on August 12, 2021.
She adds that as the ruling party, the Patriotic Front will continue to engage the opposition parties to adhere to the new normal of campaigning within the Covid 19 health guidelines.
Ms. Wina notes that the PF is open to the election results which will reflect the will of the people, as it does not want to see political competition to spill over into violence.
